Oh Brother, '14

(Variable) 48" x 72" x 72"

Fabricated patina'd steel, cast concrete, butter, motor oil, and light.

"Oh Brother" presents grease from the homestead in context with grease from industry in open faced steel tanks.  In between the two vessels the butter and oil contradict one another in their scent, reflection, and glow.  The large volume and heaviness of the materials is weightless through light shed from inside the tanks onto the ground below.  These structures reference feeding troughs or wishing wells at chest height. The butter sweats and absorbs light, while the oil is glassy smooth and offers a perfect mirror of what is above.
