Setting Sail: Gettin Outta Dodge, '15
112" x 48" x 96" (object)
Reclaimed Douglas Fir, fabricated steel, patina, screen print on canvas, and two 12 minute video/sound loops
This work was exhibited alongside “A-L-I-C-E’ in my 2015 solo exhibition 'Chassis' in April and May of 2015 at The Hamiltonian Gallery, DC.
This vessel explores the space between utilitarian and fine art object. In its original installation, two video screens were installed on either side of the object. One video documented the creation of the structure in a quick, noisy, and chaotic edit - inspired by youtube culture of do it yourself tutorials. The adjacent screen played a video of the vessel setting sail. The creation of the boat itself was an intense ‘labor of love’ with the end goal being a literal vehicle for a calming moment.
